Hey Future Looper!
Remember how I promised we’d talk about creating those magical breakthrough moments?
Well, grab your favorite beverage, because today we’re diving into something really exciting.
(And no, it’s not about that one time I accidentally created a breakthrough by dropping a hot glass rod… though that’s a story for another day!)
---
The Myth of the “Aha” Moment
You know that scene in movies where someone suddenly has a huge realization—complete with dramatic music and a slow-motion camera pan?
Yeah… real breakthroughs rarely look like that.
In fact, some of the most powerful breakthroughs I’ve witnessed started with something that seemed totally insignificant at the time.
---
The Setup
Picture this: I’m working with a client who’s telling me about their “productivity problem.”
They’re gesturing with their hands, explaining how they can never seem to get things done, when suddenly…
they make this tiny motion, like they’re pushing something away.
Remember what we learned about responding to unconscious signals?
Instead of pointing it out, I got curious.
---
The Dance Begins
Me: “Tell me more about that…”
Them: “Well, it’s like… I know what I need to do, but…”
(Cue the same pushing motion)
Me: “Mmm…” (Silence)
Them: “It’s like… huh. You know what’s weird? This reminds me of how my dad used to…”
And THERE it was—the real loop, starting to emerge.

The Secret Ingredient
Want to know what actually creates breakthrough moments? Space.
Not outer space (though that would be cool).
I’m talking about the space between words, between thoughts, between signals.
It’s in these spaces that the unconscious mind does its best work.
---
The Three Elements
Every genuine breakthrough has three key elements:
- Safety – The person feels completely safe to explore
- Space – There’s room for the unconscious to speak
- Connection – They feel truly heard and understood
- You see the unconscious signal
- You create space for exploration
- You follow their natural rhythm
- You stay curious about where it’s going
- And then… you wait.
- Someone says “I’m fine” but their hand makes a fist.
- They say “I’m ready to move on” but their body leans backward.
- Slow down (no, even slower than that)
- Get comfortable with silence
- Trust the process
- Stay genuinely curious
- Follow the energy, not your agenda
Miss any of these and you’ll likely end up with what I call a “false breakthrough”—those surface-level insights that don’t create lasting change.

The Art of Leading
Creating breakthroughs isn’t about pushing or forcing—it’s about leading the dance while letting your partner think they’re leading.
Think of it like this:
---
The Magic of Micro-Moments
Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come from the smallest observations:
These aren’t random movements—they’re doorways to deeper understanding.
---
A Real Example
Just last week:
A client was telling me about their “impossible” goal. Every time they mentioned it, they glanced slightly to their left.
Instead of interrupting, I matched their pace and asked, “What else do you notice about this goal?”
They were quiet for a moment, then:
“It’s funny… I just realized it’s the same direction my old boss used to sit—the one who told me I’d never amount to anything…”
Breakthrough city, population: them.
---
The Follow-Through
Here’s the crucial part—what you do after the breakthrough.
Many practitioners try to immediately cement the insight with techniques or exercises. Don’t.
Let it breathe.
Let it settle.
Let the unconscious mind integrate the new understanding naturally.

What’s Next?
In our next post, we’ll explore how to know when a breakthrough is real versus when it’s just surface-level insight—because not all “aha” moments are created equal…
But for now, try this: in your next conversation, see if you can spot the micro-moments between the words. That’s where the real breakthroughs begin.
